2/1/2021 Heating Assistance Available The Ohio Development Services Agency and Community Action Council of Portage County want to remind Ohioans that assistance is available to help with their home energy bills. The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps Ohioans at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty guidelines pay their heating bills. And Ohioans who are threatened with disconnection, or have been disconnected from their utility service, may also be eligible for the HEAP Winter Crisis Program, which started on November 1, 2020. To apply for Winter Crisis Program Assistance, please call 234-703-4303 to make an appointment, or 330-297-1456 option 1 to speak to representative. You MUST make an appointment in order for a Winter Crisis Application to be processed. All appointments are via telephone, and documents are provided by customer after the appointment. Ohioans can visit energyhelp.ohio.gov to apply for HEAP and PIPP online, download a copy of the application. Individuals will need to provide copies of the following documents to include with their application:
HEAP benefits are applied to an individual’s energy bill after January 1st. Applications for the HEAP Winter Crisis program must be received by March 31, 2021.
