The Ohio Commission on Minority Health, Portage County NAACP, the Community Action Council of Portage County, NEOMED, and other organizations are sponsoring a series of events focusing on minority health disparities in Portage County in conjunction with Minority Health Month.

Dr. Carmen Blakely, ED.D, RDN, LD, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR KSUDr. Carmen Blakely is an Associate Professor at Kent State
University in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services. She is a graduate of Kent State University, Michigan State University, and the A.T. Still University and holds 2 Master’s Degrees as well as a doctoral degree. As an Associate Professor at Kent State, she works with over 1000 students per year and teaches Science of Human Nutrition, Human Nutrition and Dietary Food Modification-Nutrition for Older Adults. She has extensive experience as a Clinical Registered Dietician and Nutritionist specializing in Adult/Adolescent and Childhood Weight Management, Neurology and Nutrition and Nephrology and Nutrition and has lectured widely on health disparities. |
Dr. Curtis Kwodwo Williams II Bs, MSW, Ph.DDr. Curtis Kwodwo Williams II, BS., MSW, Ph.D
is an accomplished African centered, community psychologist with over twenty years in the mental health and social service. He has a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Akron and a doctorate from Saybrook University in Clinical Psychology. He is currently practicing as a African centered clinical community-based psychologist at Ohio’s premier culturally based mental health agency Minority Behavioral Health Group (MBHG) where he acts as Community Programs Coordinator and Psychotherapist. He has worked extensively with Akron Public School, Summa Health System, Akron Judicial System (juvenile and adult), Akron Health Department, Job and Family services, Adult protective services, and the Children Services Board. Dr. Williams most recent project, directed towards African American males, involves developing a relationship with the courts to promote programming for judicial reform through mental health services. |
