Click The Community Action Council of Portage County is continuing to accept appointments for emergency assistance under the Home Energy Assistance Program Winter Crisis Program. To schedule an appointment you can call CAC at 330-297-1456 option #1. The automated appointment system will walk you through making an appointment. Appointments book very quickly during our Winter Crisis program. New appointments are made available at 12am (midnight) each business day.
CAC also offers walk-ins for those who are unable to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are seen on a first come first serve basis. Walk-ins at the CAC Main Offices located at 1036 W. Main Street are on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. The doors open at 8:00am and we see the first 24 customers who have all of the necessary documentation. We also have walk-ins at our HEAP Satellite Centers located in Kent, Garrettsville, Ravenna, Atwater, and Windham. Households who are eligible may receive up to $175 on their regulated utility bill, up to $450 for wood/pellets, and/or up to $750 for propane or fuel oil. To receive assistance, households must have a disconnection notice on their utility bill, need service restored, or have less than 25% of fuel in their propane or fuel oil tank and must be income eligible ($43,050 annually for a family of 4). All required documentation must be brought to the appointment in order to be seen for assistance. The Winter Crisis Program ends March 31st, 2018.
