Community Action Council helps with HEATING bills HEAP Satellites throughout Portage County Portage County Community Action Council is currently providing emergency heating assistance through the Winter Crisis Program. To be eligible you must, be below 175% of the federal poverty guidelines for 3 months (3-month at $10,763 for a family of 4, or $43,050/year); apply for assistance via a face-to-face interview with HEAP Intake Specialist; have current utility bill(s) in household member’s name; and be a resident of Portage County and have an electric, gas, or bulk fuel bill in the name of an adult member of the household.
The Benefits available are: One-time emergency assistance on Dominion East Ohio and/or Ohio Edison up to $175.00 if in disconnect status; has been disconnected, or needs transferred to a new address; or one-time assistance for BULK FUEL. If you heat with oil or propane you could be approved for up to $750.00 if less than 25 percent supply. If you heat with wood, coal or pellets you could be approved for up to $450. There is a walk-in opportunity available every weekday during the Winter Crisis Program (through March 31, 2017), unless there is a Holiday or inclement weather which causes the site to close.
