2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Community Action Council of Portage County and the fight in the War on Poverty in the Portage County area. To celebrate this special year, the CAC’s Board of Directors will be sponsoring a community celebration on Saturday, September 26th, 2015; from 10:30am to 1:00pm at the First Church of God in Ravenna on New Milford Road. This event is free to community members.
During the community event, there will be fun and family friendly activities as well as displays of photographs, letters, news articles, and other forms of media from the past to show the history of the CAC’s fight in the War on Poverty; this event will also be celebrating partnering programs such as Head Start of Portage County. To better share the history of the CAC and Head Start, the CAC is asking community members with positive and motivational testimonies of the efforts of CAC and/or Head Start from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s to please contact them and share your story so that the CAC will be able to share them with the community. You may also share your stories through a form on our website by clicking on the tab (top of this page) labeled as "Celebrating 50 Years!!". Although the event is free, due to limited seating and food, the CAC is asking for those who plan on attending to please RSVP and reserve your ticket(s) in advance.
