The Kent Furnace Inspection and Targeted Replacement Program is available to income-eligible home-owners living within the City of Kent to provide FREE furnace Inspections and cleaning, consumer education, and if eligible, a possible furnace replacement.

The program can also replace hot water tanks. Services under the program are also coordinated with existing CAC Energy Conservation Programs, such as the Home Weatherization Assistance Program and utility-funded conservation programs.

All services provided under this program are FREE to income eligible Kent homeowners.

 
SERVICES PROVIDED
The program cannot make repairs to existing housing. Services provides under the program include:
  • Initial furnace inspection and diagnostic testing, including a combustion analysis, CO test and others;
  • Provision of a complete house diagnostic test, with advice and recommendations to homeowner regarding energy costs;
  • Basic clean and tune of furnace;
  • Possible replacement of heating unit if health/safety or significant inefficiencies exist;
  • Insulation of or possible replacement of hot water tank if health/safety or significant inefficiencies exist; CO detector installation;
  • Immediate referral to other income-based FREE weatherization services provided by the Community Action Council of Portage County;
  • Follow-through to determine effectiveness of conservation efforts;
  • Other problems which may be health or safety related.
  HOW TO APPLY
Applications for services are available at the central offices of the Community Action Council of Portage County, located at 1036 West Main Street in Ravenna, OH.  If you are home-bound or lack of transportation, please contact CAC at (330) 297-1456.

In order to qualify for assistance, you must:

  1. Own the home, provide proof of ownership, and current heating bill, and live in the City of Kent;
  2. Have an annual income that is at or below the established low-moderate income guidelines for Portage County and Kent; and
  3. Sign all authorization forms & allow CAC to follow-up for 1 year.

All heating unit installations are completed by insured and licensed heating unit contractors approved to work in the City of Kent.

Elderly, disabled applicants, and families are given priority.
