Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) applications are still available through Community Action Council of Portage County (CAC). The regular HEAP program is a one time credit on income eligible households’ heating bill, and is not an emergency program. Applications for this year’s program can be processed through June 30th.
To apply residents must have an appointment, or come to one of our walk-ins, bring 90 days proof of income for anyone in the home who is 18 years of age or older, provide current utility bills, and proof of citizenship (generally a social security card or birth certificate), know all household member’s social security numbers, and meet income guidelines. Walk-ins are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 8 to 11 am, and the first 12 clients will be seen.
CAC also cautions current Percentage of Income Payment Plan Plus (PIPP+) customers that you must re-verify every 12 months, or when the household income changes in any way. PIPP+ customers also must have an appointment, or use one of our walk-in times.
Customers can call CAC at 330-297-1456 24 hours a day, and press 1 for the HEAP IVR appointment line to make an appointment. For additional information, you can call 330-297-1456 and press 0 for the receptionist during regular business hours. Business hours are Monday through Friday 8 am to 4:30 pm. CAC is located at 1036 West Main Street in Ravenna.
